Human Development Documentary: Teach your child about the truth of the baby in the womb. This documentary from the Education Resource Fund was created specifically for this age group.
Self Portrait: Have your child draw a self portrait and around their picture have them write traits they like about themselves. These might include words such as “kind”, “good friend”, “funny”, or “great artist”. Add any traits you notice about your child. Make a self portrait of yourself also and have your child help you write your good traits. Discuss how we are all created in the image and likeness of God, with different gifts and talents which we can use to love and serve God.
Grandparent Letter: Have your child write a letter to their grandparent or an elderly person. Let this person know how much they are loved and appreciated. Help your child brainstorm the reasons this person is important to them and talk about the gifts they offer from their experience. If it is someone the student doesn’t know personally, it can be a general letter.
The Annunciation Story: Read the Annunciation story with your child. (Luke 1: 26-38) Talk about how Mary might have felt. Was she scared? Uncertain? Why did she choose to say yes? What can this teach us about our choices in difficult situations?
