Spiritual Adoption: As a family, spiritually adopt a child in danger of abortion. Commit to say the spiritual adoption prayer as a family daily for nine months. Find printable copies of the prayer here. (From the Diocese of Fort Worth. Many other versions are also available free online)
Prayer: Even if you cannot commit to pray daily for nine months, spend time together in prayer. Thank God for your lives and ask him to protect the mothers & babies at risk of becoming victims of abortion. Encourage your children to be active participants in this prayer time. Ideas of more Pro-Life prayers can be found here. (From the USCCB)
Family Service Project: Include your children in doing Pro-Life service as a way to help them see that they are also part of the Pro-Life community. Ideas for family service projects include:
Creating cards for moms for a local Pregnancy Help Center. Have young children draw pictures and decorate the front of the cards while teens and parents write encouraging messages on the inside. We advise checking with your local PHC first to see if there is anything specific they would like included in the message.
Volunteer at a local food bank. (Call ahead to double check that they accept child volunteers, this varies.)
Visit a Nursing Home. Take some puzzles or simple board games and spend a morning or afternoon playing and conversing with the residents. They adore seeing little children and many do not have anyone to visit them regularly. (Again, we suggest calling ahead for permission.)
Celebrate Life Cake: Have a birthday cake (or other dessert) to celebrate the gift of life! Before digging in, sing a song of thanks to God! (To the Tune of Happy Birthday) Thank you God for our lives Thank you God for our lives All life is a blessing Thank you God for our lives
