St. Gaspar del Bufalo

Feast Day: October 21st
Lived: 1786-1837

From a young age, St. Gaspar knew that he had a special calling to share the Word of God with people whom society had forgotten.

As a young priest, he preached especially to laborers and farm workers. He wanted to show them God’s love, even as they struggled to make enough money to buy food. He had not abandoned them.

St. Gaspar developed a special devotion (love) to the Precious Blood of Jesus and started a missionary order (a group who goes out to teach God’s love to others) with the special goal of spreading the devotion of the Precious Blood throughout Italy.

St. Gaspar was not afraid to go to the worst places, even those run by bandits (robbers or those who ignore do not follow the law), to teach of God’s forgiveness. He would set up a Crucifix in the middle of the town, pray, and teach in front of it.

Many people made fun of his order and their work, and they often had trouble finding the money to continue their work. Despite this, they kept going and teaching.

The Missionaries of the Precious Blood continue the work of St. Gaspar today. They work to teach the love and forgiveness of God to anyone who feels unloved.
